Filippa varotsi shares her morning rituals ,beauty routine and tips , her summer essentials and more
Hello this week I decided to ask filippa : my style icon, i discovered her account from tiktok in winter and then I became obsessed with her photo dumps I got a lot of inspo , she's so sweet , so I asked her a few questions on her morning routine , summer essentials, her beauty routine , what's in her bag also she will share her haircare tips and more 💫
Q & A :
M: What does a typical morning look like for you? Do you have any specific rituals that set the tone for the day? Your favorite breakfast , workout
Filippa : I love routine and I feel like it sets the appropriate tone for my day. Over the last years I’ve aimed to become a morning person and as a result try to wake up at 7-8am. I then drink a glass of water to remain hydrated and then make myself a morning coffee. While I drink that I use my 5-minute journal or my personal journal if I feel like I have more I want to express. I then read for 10-15 minutes usually my non-fiction book of the month. This routine is ideal for me as it makes me feel productive while still having a self-care slow morning daily.
As for favorite breakfasts, I love having freshly squeezed orange juice, a bagel with cream cheese, tomato, capers and lemon squeezed on top or sunny-side up eggs.
My favorite workout is hot yoga that I try to do at least once a week as it is a bit of drive to get to the studio. However, I feel so amazing after and especially on days that I do it early in the morning I feel relaxed for the entire day. I’ve also gotten into weight lifting and have enjoyed creating mini programs for myself that I can do at my local gym at my own pace.
M : Filippa your hair is so gorgeous I’m obsessed, do you have a haircare routine , tips ? And how do you style it ?
Filippa: Thank you so much! I feel like my hair has been a bit of a struggle because it truly has a mind of its own. What I’ve found recently that helps with retaining volume with no heat is sleeping with a hair roll in for the front pieces (for me it’s long curtain bangs) and since I also have layers and some of them are really short I use 2 more rolls going on a straight line along my hairline at the top of my head
. I’ve tried multiple other methods like the headband rod or the sock method but I would always wake up with a headache after. I’ve found that lightly spraying my hair with water makes it easier to manage. Also, the higher the roll the easier is to sleep. For the rest of my hair I braid it either in a normal braid or a fishtail.
For haircare I take daily biotin supplements that help with hair and nail growth. I also try to wait 2-3 days in between washes and the way I accomplish that without having super greasy hair is slicked back hairstyles. Normally, I’ll wear my hair naturally for 2 days after washing and on the third I’ll slick it up. For the middle to the ends of my hair I’ll apply my Gisou leave-in conditioner and Moroccanoil treatment.
I tend to avoid using any oils on the roots of my hair prior to slicking it as I’ve found that it doesn’t mix well with the gel and doesn’t let it stick as well. Then as soon as I get home I’ll take it down and then apply olive oil, rosemary, jojoba, almond and castor oil focused on my scalp but also roots and let it sit for as long as I can but minimum 10 minutes. I also try to use my scalp brush to really infuse the oils in and stimulate blood circulation that’s good for hair growth.
For the summer I also recommend investing in a hair sunscreen spray to help with sun exposure as well as creating a mask to put on after going in the water. I normally buy a hair mask and then add rosemary, jojoba, almond and castor oil and mix it in.
Not only does my hair end up smelling really good it also helps with hydration after being exposed to the sun and salt water. I apply a small amount every time I get out of the water to have consistent hydration.
M : In your bag : what do you carry in your everyday bag
Filippa: The first thing I always have with me is my water. I have a 16oz hydroflask that I’ve found is the best size since the 20oz one was way too heavy to carry daily.
I also have an Ogigis pouch that has all my essentials organized. In it I have my rhode lip treatment in salted caramel, my Altoids artic peppermint mints (I swear by this flavor it’s truly the best one), the Glossier you rollerball perfume, hand sanitizer - I recently got the Touchland Vanilla Blossom sanitizer and love it but it is on the expensive side, tissues and feminine products.
I also carry my iPad and sometimes computer depending on the day.
And finally during the summer my sunnies. Right now I’m obsessed with the Le Specs Outta Love in Tort & Green from revolve.
M : What are some of your timeless wardrobe essentials ? You always look so effortlessly gorgeous
Filippa: Thank you so so much! I think during this past 2 years I’ve truly found my style and aesthetics. In my experience timeless bottoms are easier to acquire than tops so I tend to start there.
My favorite ever pair of jeans are the Aritzia Farrah High Rise Wide Leg and I wear the size 28L and 27 waist - I sized up to have a more oversized look. I have this pair in both blue and black and truly wear each at least once a week. I also love the look of wide or straight leg office pants. I have a pair of black ones from Zara that are so easy to style and a pair of gray ones that I thrifted from the guys section at a Goodwill. I also love the look of white office pants but have yet to find the perfect pair!

Lastly, I think having a medium-long silk skirt in black and white is another way to elevate a look easily. I have the Babaton Slip Midi Skirt in Denude which is a pastel pink color that I absolutely love especially for the spring/ summer.
As for tops I recommend simple spaghetti strapped tops in basic colors to have as the base of any outfit. My favorite ones are from Zara and I got them in black, white and beige (the code is 3905/832). I also love the look of tube tops and have black and white one from Aritzia. I also recommend a plain short sleeve t-shirt for a more casual look. A great place to look for them is Uniqlo for a grey, white and black one.

For jackets, investing in a good faux black leather jacket is always a good idea. I have one from Aritzia but some of my friends have also thrifted amazing ones (just coming across a smaller size is a bit of a struggle when thrifting). I also love the look of an army green bomber jacket. H&M or Zara have great options.
For sets I’m obsessed with the look of a tube top/ long skirt combo and especially all white or black. My favorite is 365 Maxi skirt in Coconut milk from Tala with the 365 either Bandeau top or short sleeve t-shirt for someone looking for more coverage.
Lastly for shoes, I recently really like the look of ballerina shoes for any occasion or New Balance sneakers. For ballerina shoes I have the Felicia Ballet Flat from Sam Edelman and for New Balance the 550 in White/Navy blue
M : In busy days , How do you organize yourself for a new week do you use a calendar , agenda or notion ?
Filippa : I love my google calendar and before the start of a school semester I note down all my classes and assignments in different colors as well as office hours for my professors and TAs. I’ve created different calendars for school, hobbies and personal as well as subcategories within that (classes, assignments, office hours are all separate). I choose different colors for each that I enjoy so that my calendar still looks aesthetically pleasing while being organized.
I do want to find a paper agenda but still haven’t found one that I fully enjoy.

I also use notion to keep track of other activities such as workouts, reading schedule, content and anything else that might need a bit more clarification and organization
I recently read Grace Beverley’s “Working Hard, Hardly Working” and try to dedicate 5 minutes each morning to plan my day and find 3 non-negotiables to achieve for that specific day. I also plan for the week ahead either on Saturday or Sunday just to have an indication of how the week will be
M : beach day : what are 5 essentials you always take with you
Filippa :
1. Sunscreen (one for my face, one for my body, one for my hair)
2. My kindle (truly the most convenient way of reading)
3. Water/ coffee
4. Toiletry pouch that has everything I mentioned before (e.g. lip balm, hand sanitizer, tissues etc.) & hair care mask with oils

M : Rituals that help you relax at night ?
Filippa :
I love having red light in my room at night. I have a light bulb from Amazon that changes colors and I always set it to red 1 hour before bed.
Diffuser with lavender scent. I have a timed diffuser that turns on from 8:30-11pm that helps me relax
If I feel stressed I like having a chamomile tea that I drink while reading
I use my 5-minute journal and my personal journal and note down whatever’s on my mind
Lastly I read on my kindle and always read my fiction book to help me relax. I’ve found that non-fiction isn’t beneficial as I can’t concentrate.
In days where I want to romanticize my night routine I’ll also light a candle and put on a face mask.
I loved making this article , I hope you liked it and got some inspiration 💗
